Electricity Regulatory Authority on January 21st held a press conference to explain developments that took place in the electricity industry during the first half (July – December 2013) of this financial year, highlight the current electricity supply situation and give an insight of the future outlook.
Addressing a press conference at ERA House on January 21st 2014, the ERA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Benon Mutambi said a number of plans are being implemented to expand generation capacity both in the short and long-term.
Through schemes such as the Global Energy Transfer for Feed–in–Tariffs (GETFiT) a cumulative generation capacity of 150MW is being targeted to be brought into production within the next three years.
Dr. Mutambi also said that the Authority is in advanced stages of procuring a Consultant to package a tender for the development of 50MW from solar photovoltaic projects. It is expected that this capacity will be commissioned by mid-2015
