ERA Rolls Out Support to Primary Education

The Electricity Regulatory Authority on 7th August 2017 launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for the Financial Year 2016/17, at Bumangi Primary School in Kalangala District.

The Authority donated scholastic materials that included Text books, Exercise books and Sanitary wear to the pupils at the school. The handover ceremony was witnessed by Parents and the District leadership of Kalangala District. While speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Julius Wandera (Manager Communication, ERA), on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, congratulated Bumangi Primary School for emerging the most suitable beneficiary of the project, out of the four schools identified in Kalangala District. He expressed optimism that ERA’s contribution would translate into better academic performance for the pupils.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mrs. Lule Ssenkungo M.T.N., noted that ERA’s CSR initiative was an indicator of goodwill and a caring Regulator. She appreciated the Authority for its efforts towards stakeholder engagement and continued intervention in issues affecting electricity consumers in Kalangala District.

The Kalangala District Chairperson, Mr. Lugoloobi B. Willy, expressed appreciation for ERA’s stakeholder-focused regulatory approach; and cautioned the teachers and pupils against misusing the scholastic materials.

The Authority’s CSR Project for Financial Year 2016/17 targeted improvement of education in Primary Schools in three distribution concession areas operated by Kalangala Infrastructural Services (KIS), Bundibugyo Energy Co-operative Society Ltd (BECS) and Pader-Abim Community Multipurpose Electricity Co-operative Society Limited (PACMECS).
